The West Country League is another product of Robin Leeworthy's insatiable brain. It was met with a luke warm response when she first suggested it but it filled a need we had in our gym. As the gap between National and Regional gymnastics widened it had left a group of gymnasts who needed something useful to do. Lots of invitationals began to spring up but they were all stand alone competition with little purpose. They all had different rules and it was difficult to get any progression in the girls' work
With these requirements in mind Robin spent a few sleepless nights sorting out the rules. They haven't changed much; just kept up with new codes.
So in 2003 we held our first match with teams from Exeter GC, Easton GC, OLGA, Baskervilles GC, Clevedon GC, Littledown GC Swansea GC and Bristol SG
Swansea won the C team and Easton won the A and B teams
There are now 5 Divisions in the league.
Each club can enter teams A, B and C League.
A leagues have very simple rules and is for 11 years and under
B league is more difficult and the team must have an average age of not more than 13 years.
C league teams use FIG code rules
As no one as been able to compete this year we are only running one match. We are using it to try out some new rules. BG has produced new competition rules so we thought it would be a good idea to use these for the League.
We are using the Classics Challenge rules:
A League - Zinc rules
B League - Copper rules
C league - Bronze rules
